Mexico City native Gabriela Damián Miravete writes fiction and essays that embody her passion for fantasy and science fiction. She teaches master level courses on the relationship between film and literature in Mexico City, where she is a founding member of the art and science collective Cúmulo de Tesla. She has held fiction fellowships from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA) and Under the Volcano, which awarded her the Página Dorada fellowship for her forthcoming collection of short stories. Her work has been anthologized in Three Messages and a Warning: Contemporary Mexican Short Stories of the Fantastic (World Fantasy Award finalist); Una realidad más amplia / A Larger Reality (Hugo Award Finalist); and Cuerpos: Fantascienza contemporanea spagnola e latino-americana, among others. She recently won the James Tiptree, Jr. Award for her futuristic short story “Soñarán en el jardín”, about femicides in México, which originally appeared in Latin American Literature Today. In her spare time, Gaby is the mother of two furry toddlers, Fellini and Chewbacca.
