Poetry with Paul Muldoon
I have taught English and Comparative Literature at Columbia, Yale, Vassar, NYU and Barnard. In 2015, I published Poetry and Politics of Decolonization: Tagore, Yeats, Senghor, Césaire, and Neruda. I study the interaction of literature and development, especially in the Americas, during the 20th century. I have written poetry all my life, but published very little. My involvement with immigrant cultures in New York has led me to work with ID Studio Theater Performance and Research Center in the South Bronx, adapting and translating new plays. In 1983, I married the writer Ved Mehta, and have two children and three grandchildren. I lived with Campa Indians in the high jungle of the Peruvian Amazon. Working across cultures and languages has always fascinated me. I am committed to fairness, compassion, justice. I sing; I ride; I run across fields.
