Poetry
El Paso and Corpus Christi, Texas
I am a Chicana educator, leadership coach and poet from El Paso and Corpus Christi, TX. I come to this year’s residency to deepen my craft, extend my literary community, and pursue liberation both in what I write and how I write. I am an emergent poet in my fifties and write about my upbringing in South Texas and my path to sovereignty since. I’m a returning UTV alum for Poetry in English. In 2024 I had so much to celebrate. My manuscript Tidal Range was a finalist for the Louise Bogan Poetry Award and numerous poems were accepted for publication, most recently in The Skinny Poetry Journal, Acentos Review and Somos Xicanas , an anthology selected by the University of Notre Dame’s Institute of Latino Studies as one of their highly anticipated books for 2024. I’m also a 2024 recipient of the Washington DC Arts and Humanities Fellowship for Poetry. I’m a proud DC resident living in the unceded territory of the Nagotchank in Deanwood near the Anacostia River, where I make my home with my teenage son, two dogs and menopause.
