founder & director
New York-based writer Magda Bogin is the founder and director of Under the Volcano. Novelist, translator, poet and librettist, she has taught in the writing programs of Columbia, Princeton and City College, CUNY, and was editorial writer and editorial page editor at El Diario/La Prensa, the Spanish-language daily in New York.
An independent writer from Kerala, India, Rebecca relocated during the pandemic to Brooklyn, New York. She is an alumna of UTV’s journalism program and has a keen interest in the impact of globalization on food, health and rural communities. She is currently working on Pawns of Progress, a documentary film that follows the story of a Indian farmer and his family, and the absurdities of the global economic paradigm they’ve inherited. Her work has been published with Earth Island Journal, Vice Media, Homegrown India and others.
Laura Garibay was born in Mexico City, where she studied literature and pedagogy. After working for many years as a Montessori classroom teacher, she became a trainer and coach in pedagogy for teachers in private and public schools in Mexico. She is a long-time resident of Tepoztlán.
Juan Antonio Arévalo
Web designer, videgrographer, editor and musician from Mexico City but living in Cuernavaca. He started to work with UTV in 2018 and is responsible for our new look. He also produces video and designs the layout for all our multimedia platforms, while performing sleights. ofhand behind the scene as the producer for our online events and workshops.
